Cycle Time

DEFINITION

Cycle time measures the time it takes for an epic to go from ideation to delivery. It includes issues assigned to all teams — product, design, engineering, etc.

As a subset of cycle time, engineering cycle time measures the time it takes an engineering team to complete each epic.

HOW IT’S MEASURED

Cycle time is calculated as the time from when the first issue associated with an Epic was marked as in progress to when the Epic was marked as done.

More specifically, engineering cycle time is calculated as the time from when the first commit is made toward an epic to when the last pull request was deployed.
